Megabus

Megabus is the leading budget intercity coach operator in the UK. Megabus coaches are easily recognisable by their distinctive blue and yellow branding and bus driver logo. It is the long distance coach division of Stagecoach Group, the international transport company.

The Megabus services, were first launched in the UK in 2003. Megabus offer environmentally conscious travel at genuinely cheap prices. The company immediately burst into the news headlines by offering incredible fares from just £1 or €1 (with a 50p/50c booking fee) across the UK (and now Europe including Paris, Amsterdam and Brussels). They were one of the first coach companies to adopt 'yield management' popular amongst the 'low cost carrier airline' like Easyjet & Ryanair. This is the practice of selling incredibly cheap tickets that get more expensive as the coach fills up. So it pays to book ahead on Megabus! (However, their prices are still relatively cheap even on the day of travel in our experience especially compared to rail). Megabus run a headline grabbing 'free seats' offer (usually at the start of the year). when Megabus offer thousands of free seats to passengers to encourage them to try Megabus for the first time.

Linking around 60 destinations, Megabus offer high-quality, low-cost travel in one of the most modern coach fleets (helped in no small part by Stagecoach owner Brian Souter owning Plaxton, the U.K's last remaining Coach Manufacturer). Megabus carrys more than 2 million passengers a year.

The UK network stretches from the Highlands of Scotland to south-west England, connecting some of the UK’s most popular destinations, including London, Birmingham, Manchester, Liverpool, Leeds, Edinburgh, Glasgow and Cardiff. As is increasingly the norm in the Coach industry Megabus employ simple e-tickets you can print off at home. In fact to travel you simply need your booking reference, to show to the driver when boarding your coach. Passengers can even request to receive their booking reference by text message. This saves on unnecessary paperwork, unnecessary paper printing and is great if you are on a mobile device or not near a printer.

Megabus operates coaches equipped with on board toilets. Rest stops are provided on longer journeys and selected services.
